Was For Raising the Gas Tax Before He Was Against It

Chris Pappas is once again demonstrating that he’s a partisan politician and not the independent voice that New Hampshire needs in Washington.

While Pappas is introducing political bills that have little chance of passing just to grab a quick headline today, for years he was voting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on inflation producing legislation that would drive up energy prices.

Worse, he even spoke in favor of raising the gas tax.

Pappas was a party-line vote for the American Rescue Plan that gave America record inflation and higher energy prices. He voted for the mis-named "Inflation Reduction Act" and the "Build Back Better Act," which included $100 billion in new energy taxes, which would have driven up energy costs for New Hampshire homeowners.

Most notably, Chris Pappas was for raising the gas tax before he was against it. In 2019 Pappas was for raising the gas tax saying, “the gas tax has less and less purchasing power. It's also been since 1993 since we have raised it. so, I think that is one place we can look."

“Chris Pappas is your typical partisan politician who blows where the political winds take him,” said Sununu campaign spokesman Mike Schrimpf. “His record on energy costs is terrible, voting to push up costs as families struggle with winter heating bills. New Hampshire needs an independent voice focused on the economy and affordability always, not just when it’s politically expedient.”
